We are overwhelmingly proud of our students who performed in the Carlisle & District Music & Drama Festival last week, and so pleased that many of them received awards and acknowledgements for their talented performances:
- Mya Gilmour and Isla Watson (Y10) came 1st in class 89: Duologue
- Edward Coleby (Yr8) came 1st in class 90: Short Dramatic Scene – solo14yrs and under (where he was up against 22 other competitors). Edward performed so well that he was invited back to perform at the Gala Concert on Saturday evening where he won the ‘Lancelyn Green Trophy’ for a performance worthy of note in acting.
- Nicole Todhunter (Yr13) came 2nd in class 91: Short Dramatic Scene – solo open
- Our 5 Musical Theatre competitors were up against 19 other performers. Their entertaining and professional performances achieved high honours marks.
- Max Fricker came 1st in class 693: Electric Guitar Solo 13-18. Max’s performance warranted an invite to perform at Saturday’s Gala Evening where he won the ‘Prelude Guitar Shield’ for most musical performance in any guitar class.
- Aidan Hodgson came 1st in class 705: Percussion Solo (Drum Kit) open
- Evie Mellor came 2nd in class 503: Brass Solo 15-18
- The William Howard School (Rock) Orchestra came 2nd in class 350: Secondary Schools Orchestra
- The choir gave an outstanding, lively performance but were unfortunately not placed this year (we can’t win every year!)
All 17 orchestra members, 38 choir members and 8 soloists performed exceptionally well, especially as it was the first time that this orchestra and the soloists had competed in the festival.
WHS Director of Performance Susanna Cooper said, “I am so proud of all our students who took part in the festival. They all performed excellently and were fantastic representatives of William Howard School. Thank you so much to the students and staff in our Performing Arts Faculty for working so hard to enable these performances to happen.”
