Our Sixth Formers did a great job of organising activities for Children in Need on Friday, in their hilarious fancy dress costumes!
The theme this year was linked to Paddy McGuinness’ awesome challenge to complete 300 miles on a Raleigh Chopper bike. Many WHS staff and students cheered on Paddy earlier this week as he crossed the border from Cumbria into Scotland.
During the week, Sixth Form students took on their own endurance cycling challenge – pedalling the length of Hadrian’s Wall (84 miles) on exercise bikes in our fitness suite. They almost covered twice the distance, with Year 12 reaching 77.4 miles and Year 13 achieving 83.9 miles.
Staff showed their pedal pushing power in a head-to-head bike time trial challenge during first break, with £117 being raised in ticket sales for the event. Thank you to Mr Connolly, Mrs Nettleton, Mr Davies, Miss Inglesfield, Mrs Cooper and Nicole Todhunter (Head Student) for being such great sports!
During second break, the Sixth Form held their football derby in front of a huge, supportive, vocal audience. It was an exciting match but in the end Year 13 were victorious, winning 2-0. Well done to Harry Lawson and Jake Raffles for their skillful goals!
In Tutor Time, each form group took part in a special Children in Need quiz. The winners, 9SBY, received a tub of chocolates to share.
We hope the events rose awareness and support for Children in Need and will prompt further donations to the national fundraising campaign.
