We were delighted to welcome the talented and accomplished local author Sharon Gosling, who met with two of our Year 7 students, Misha and Georgie, after hearing about their incredible achievement—writing their very own book!
Sharon, an experienced writer with a career spanning journalism, children’s literature, and adult fiction, shared inspiring words of encouragement with our young authors. She spoke about her lifelong dream of becoming a writer and emphasised the importance of perseverance. “The industry can be full of challenges and knockbacks,” she told the students, “But just keep writing and never give up.” She also highlighted the power of reading, encouraging them to “read, read, and read” to develop their craft.
Our talented Year 7 students spent months working on their book together, a passion that started in primary school and continues to grow. As a special gesture, they gifted Sharon a personally signed first edition of their book—an exciting moment for both them and their guest!
We extend our thanks to Sharon for taking the time to visit WHS and inspire the next generation of writers. Who knows? One day, we might see these students’ names alongside hers on the bookshelves!
