Year 10 student Alfie is a very deserving recipient of the first Headteacher’s Award of the new academic year.
Through competing in the Junior Darts Corporation Scotland Development Tour against some of the region’s strongest young players, Alfie consistently performed at an exceptionally high level, reaching the last 16, finishing as runner-up in one event, securing a tournament victory, and rising to the top of the South of Scotland youth rankings. He has shown courage under pressure, hitting four 180s in a single competition day and earning the prestigious Black Medal at Annan Youth Darts Academy through sustained excellence and dedication to improvement.
What makes Alfie’s achievements even more exceptional is his commitment to helping others. Through organising and supporting a darts fundraising event for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, Alfie helped raise an incredible £1,222.73 for the charity. The event brought together local businesses, community members, family and friends, with the funds contributing towards vital research and practical support for families affected by cystic fibrosis. Despite his own personal challenges at the time, Alfie stepped up to help make the event a success. The difference this fundraising will make to families living with cystic fibrosis is significant and reflects Alfie’s desire to use his talents to support others.
Alfie’s achievements in sport, combined with his compassion, community spirit and courage in overcoming challenges, make him an outstanding role model. He demonstrates consistently the values of William Howard School and has shown that success is not only measured by personal accomplishment, but also by the positive impact we have on others. We are incredibly proud of everything Alfie has achieved.
