Shortly before 11.00am this morning, the whole school gathered in the warm autumn sunshine for our annual Remembrance Service.
Our orchestra opened the proceedings with an uplifting performance of One Day Like This, before students who are members of the RAF and Army Cadets paraded into position, ably led by Karolina Kamienobrodzka (Year 11).
Deputy Head Student, Jamie Judd, read the poem In Flanders Fields, before Head Student, Isabella Rowling delivered The Exhortation.
With great courage, Year 11 student, Ewan Isherwood, played The Last Post, signalling a minute’s silence, followed by the Reveille.
Once again, we were honoured to be joined by members of our armed forces community and their families, some of whom are veterans and others who are currently serving in the RAF and Army. We were also delighted to welcome members of the Brampton Branch of The Royal British Legion. After the service, our guests joined the cadets and Ms Pigdon (Headteacher) to lay wreaths in our memorial garden.
Reflecting on the occasion, Ms Pigdon said: “Our Remembrance Service is a time for our whole school community to come together to honour those who gave their lives so that we might live in peace. The poppy reminds us that even in the darkest of times, hope and new life can grow. Today, I was extremely proud of our students — the respect, unity, and sense of responsibility they showed as they stood to remember was truly commendable.”
In the lead-up to today’s service, our Student Leadership Team created a beautiful Remembrance wall display in the Foyer, featuring poppies and messages made by students during House Tutor Time.
