We marked International Women’s Day on Friday 7th March, by taking part in “The biggest ever girls’ football session”. Around 100 girls took to the astroturf to participate in a variety of stations prepared by the Year 8 Sports Leaders and Ryan, a Carlisle United coach.
The session began with a minute’s silence to show support for Poppy Atkinson’s family, friends and everyone impacted by her tragic death this week.
Girls from Year 7 and 8 showed great enthusiasm. Some regular players and some new to playing football all took it in their stride and had a fantastic time.
PE teacher, Mrs Beaumont said, “It was a pleasure to run and see so many girls with the opportunities that they have to play football in Cumbria. Well done to everyone involved.”
