We are thrilled to announce the wonderful results our WHS Open Spaces received in the 2023 Cumbria in Bloom Awards. Overall they were awarded GOLD; with a Silver Gilt in the Special Award for Small Wooden Copse category; a Silver Gilt in the Biodiversity category; and a Gold in the container gardening category.
Ms Booker and her team of students and staff have transformed an area of the school grounds over recent years. The Open Spaces Club is open to all students on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday lunch times, as well as after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Ms Booker said: “It’s a privilege to win Gold again this year. I have a fantastic team of students and staff, and would especially like to thanks Raelene Carruthers for her contribution.”
Student Evie Mellor, who is a member of the OS Team, said: “It is quite a special thing to have received Gold. It’s a great recognition for what we do.”
Today, the Open Spaces held a cake stall to raise funds for their horticultural activities. They also have a stall at the entrance to school for members of the public to purchase the produce they have grown.
