We are absolutely thrilled for ex-William Howard School student, Anna Nicholson, who won a bronze medal on Thursday at the Paralympics in Paris.
Anna secured her medal in the women’s F35 shot put with a brilliant throw of 9.44m. The F35 classification is for athletes who have coordination impairments such as hypertonia, ataxia, and athetosis and includes athletes like Anna with cerebral palsy.
Anna previously competed at the Paralympic Tokyo Games in 2020, where she finished in sixth place.
Tracey Croucher (WHS Inclusive Sports Lead) said, “Anna’s talent for throwing was first spotted at an inclusive athletics event at Penrith. She has worked so hard for her success, and it is wonderful to see how well she is doing.”
Anna is a fantastic role model for our current students – being the very best that she can be! Not only has Anna reached the pinnacle of her sport, but she has also excelled in her academic career; she has a master’s degree in chemical engineering and works within Nissan as a project engineer.
Headteacher, Kath Pigdon remarked, “As a school, we couldn’t be prouder of Anna for her incredible achievement on the world stage. We know her Olympic triumph is a testament to hard work, dedication, and perseverance. She has not only brought pride to herself and her family, but has also inspired our entire school community to dream big and strive for excellence. We celebrate this moment with immense pride and joy, knowing that her journey began right here at William Howard School.”
