On the last Friday before half term our A Level Philosophers joined students from Trinity and QEGS for the fifth annual A Level Religious Studies and Philosophy conference at Carlisle Cathedral. They were joined by staff from across all three schools, John Forster from Lancaster University and Cannon Benjamin Carter who taught Philosophy at Bristol University before becoming an Anglian Priest.
In groups that mixed students from the three schools they discussed the relative merits of the Teleological arguments for the existence of God as presented by William Paley, David Hume and Richard Swinburne before presenting their findings back to the conference.
A very proud Mr Connolly was very impressed with the thoughtful and confident way that WHS students from both Years 12 and 13 presented their work, and he is sure that being able to stretch themselves in such a historic setting (where William Paley himself worked in the 19th century) will pay dividends in their exams this summer.
