To celebrate ‘Pi Day’ last week – 14th March or 3.14 in the American date format – William Howard sent two teams of Year 8 students to take part in Cumbria Education Trust’s Maths Challenge at Queen Katherine School in Kendal.
Eleven teams from five secondary schools tackled six rounds of challenging maths problems, including a logic problem, a cross-number puzzle, and a high-speed shuttle round. Each round tested different mathematical skills, from problem-solving to strategic thinking and teamwork.
It was a very tight competition, but we are pleased to announce that a William Howard team, ‘Algebra Avengers’, won the event. Congratulations to the winners: Sophie, Reuben, Jack and Abigail.
Maths teacher Mr Davis commented: “This success is testament to the team members’ hard work and enthusiasm in lessons.”
A big well done also goes to Jessie, Cameron, Joey and Freya who competed strongly as team ‘Fibonacci Force’.
