Our annual Presentation Evening, where the previous year’s exam achievements are celebrated, was held at Carlisle Cathedral on Thursday 9th January.
Our guest speaker this year was Lauren Smith. Lauren is an ex-William Howard School student who is recognised for her badminton achievements; winning bronze and silver medals at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and representing GB at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
Included in the tributes and reflections on the former Year 11 and Year 13 cohorts, were presentations of a number of awards. This year, the ‘Croglin Trust Award’ was awarded to Callum Turner, and Ellie Wilson received the David Bones Sixth Form Role Model Award.
Three former Year 11 students received Cumbria Education Trust’s special awards that recognise our three core values: Summer Wharton received the award for outstanding RESPONSIBILITY; Poppy Sisson for outstanding RESPECT; and James Clark for outstanding RESILIENCE.
For the first time, ‘Be the Best You Can Be’ awards were given to exceptional students in Years 7, 8, 9 and 10. Congratulations to Paisley Hogg and Michael Jones (Year 7); Phoebe Story and Abigail Story (Year 8); Aiden Li and Sadie Clark Morrison (Year 9); and Harry Whitaker and Nong Si Ying Yong (Year 10).
Our school choir punctuated the ceremony, firstly performing ‘Vuelie’ before being joined by pupils from Castle Carrock Primary School to sing ‘When I Grow Up’ from Matilda the Musical. WHS soloists Nicole Todhunter and Morven Yerbury also gave a wonderful performance of ‘For Good’.
Assistant Headteacher and Head of Sixth Form, Miss Nicholls said: “Set in the stunning Carlisle Cathedral, our Presentation Awards Evening was a fantastic celebration of our students’ hard work, talent, and achievements. It was a chance to reflect on their amazing journeys so far and look forward to the bright futures ahead—a truly special night for our school community.”
