Our rock bands lit up the stage at The Brickyard last night, performing to a packed and enthusiastic audience. The talented young musicians wowed the crowd with powerful renditions of songs by iconic bands such as Foo Fighters and Bon Jovi.
The evening featured a variety of acts, from full bands, intimate duets, to solo acts showcasing a wide range of musical styles. Students were given the freedom to choose their own material, resulting in a vibrant and diverse set list that reflected their individual tastes and creativity.
Miss Maclachlan, Music Teacher at WHS, said: “It’s been amazing to watch the students grow in confidence and musical skill over the past few months. Some of them had never even picked up an instrument before September, and now they’re up on stage playing live in front of a buzzing crowd! Getting to perform at a real venue like The Brickyard made the experience even more special. They had the full setup—lights, mics, and a proper soundcheck. Dom from The Brickyard was absolutely brilliant, taking the time to explain how everything worked and involving the students in the whole process. It gave them a real taste of what gigging is all about. Their energy, teamwork, and commitment were just incredible. And the best part? The crowd loved it so much they were shouting for an encore!”
Year 12 Music BTEC student Eden, who gave a solo performance of “The Only Exception” by Paramore, commented; “The gig at the Brickyard was an awesome opportunity – getting to perform in front of a packed crowd at such a great venue is an experience I won’t forget and it was such a great way to celebrate the insanely talented musicians we have at our school.”
A huge volume of gratitude goes to our music teachers Mrs Cooper and Miss Maclachlan, and our peripatetic music teachers for preparing the students for the event. Thank you also to Ms Ledger, who was a brilliant compare.
Looking ahead, William Howard School will host its annual summer concert with a Disney theme on the 14th and 15th July. All are welcome – we hope to see you there!
