This year’s whole school production ‘High School Musical’ was a resounding success, leaving the packed audiences’ spirits lifted sky-high.
Students from Year 7 to 13 had been preparing for the production since October, with a range of roles and opportunities available for them to get involved; from performing in the cast or as a musician in our live orchestra, to designing and assisting in technical roles – lighting, sound, props and costume.
The students and staff have worked extremely hard, attending extra rehearsals including weekend sessions for our orchestra. The production would not be possible without the collaboration of all these elements coming together in Drama and Music and a huge thank you goes out to our dedicated staff who go above and beyond their roles.
Head of Drama, Miss Serrechia, commented: “It’s been an absolute joy to see the students develop in their roles and deliver exceptional performances. Seeing our students from all ages come together to support one another is always a highlight for me, with students making fantastic memories.”
High School Musical is a fun, high-energy stage production that celebrates friendship, teamwork, and the courage to be yourself. Set at East High, the story follows students as they balance academics, sports, and the excitement of putting on a school musical—challenging stereotypes and discovering hidden talents along the way. Packed with catchy songs, lively choreography, and heartfelt moments.
Year 13 student Morven Yerbury, who played a lead role of Gabriella Montez, remarked: “It’s been a thrilling experience – I’ve really enjoyed getting to embody Gabriella as a character. When I was in Year 8, I was in the ensemble of ‘We Will Rock You’ and now in my final musical at school I’m playing the lead and I feel so proud of how much I’ve developed as a performer over my time at William Howard School.”
Another lead character, Troy Bolton, was played by Ellie Howell. Ellie said: “As Troy my biggest challenge has been portraying a character so different from me as a person. I’ve had to learn how to play basketball to a believable level and convey masculine mannerisms – It’s been a challenge, but I’ve loved every minute,”
AJ Chandler, who plays Chad Danforth, commented: “The audience feedback has been really positive, and it’s been great to hear different opinions and the encouragement to take this further. I also took on the role of responsibility to take care of my younger peers throughout rehearsals and show week, to make sure they enjoyed this experience as much as I did.”
