Year 7 Netball
Our year 7 Netball teams faced tough competition against two strong teams in their fixture against Caldew. Despite being defeated in both games, William Howard improved in each quarter with some excellent interceptions, and some promising link up play. Maya and Neeve were voted players of the game by Caldew.
We are so proud of their effort, work rate and enthusiasm and cannot wait to see these players grow in confidence and skill level this year! Remember Netball training is on every Wednesday afterschool from 3.15pm-4.15pm and new players are always welcome.
Hockey
Fantastic resilience was shown by both of our 7-a-side girls hockey teams on Tuesday. The weather was cold; the sky a little dark but the teams showed great perseverance against Nelson Thomlinson School.
Our Year 7/8 combined team had a tough first half against a strong attacking NT team. Defence worked hard to close down play, and despite being the losing team at half time, they had gained in confidence and use of width. The second half saw more goals from NT, but also some good attacking play from WHS, resulting in a well-deserved goal!
The Year 9/10 team had a more even first half, with both teams having chances to score, but the lack of a keeper for WHS, meant that they were losing 3-0 at half time. The second half saw a much tighter defence, more linked up play and confidence in attack, resulting in a great goal. Final score 3-1.
Special mention goes to Caoimhe and Aoife for being players of the match for their respective teams. Well done to all involved! (Mrs Henderson)
Rugby
There were two fantastic afternoons of rugby for our Year 7 and Year 8 teams against our friends at Central! The fading light didn’t stop the action – both squads showed incredible skill, determination, and teamwork. A big thank you to Central for hosting and providing such competitive fixtures. Proud of our players for the effort and sportsmanship on display in such cold conditions! (Mr Green)
