Boccia
Following on from their success at the Carlisle and Eden Boccia Competition earlier in the year, one of our Boccia teams travelled to Penrith to compete in the County Competition on Friday. There were eight teams in total from around the whole county, all winners of their earlier, more local events.
Competition was fierce with two places up for grabs at the North-West Regional Competition in Liverpool in June. All the teams played each other once, which meant that everyone had lots of game time and the standard of play was high. Our William Howard Team worked really well together and they all played brilliantly throughout the day. They won all seven of their matches and won the competition becoming County Champions.
Huge congratulations to Mitsy, Zayn and Emily (Captain). These students had attended a number of extra Boccia practices after school in the run up to the competition and it was lovely to see their hard work paying off. We wish them luck representing Cumbria in Liverpool in June at the North-West Regionals.
Well done to all the teams who took part and made this such a great day of Boccia and thank you to Hannah Paling of HP Activities, Active Cumbria and Panathlon for organising the day. Finally, a huge thank you to the sports leaders from Kirby Stephen Grammar School who officiated all the games and did a wonderful job.
Year 7 Cricket
A lovely group of students played Newman School on Wednesday, and learned loads along the way – everyone showed real development in both bowling and batting, with great effort and enthusiasm throughout.
WHS came away with the win (although the result may have been helped by some interesting scoring from Mr Green, who still isn’t quite sure how many balls are in an over!). Fantastic spirit from both teams and a big thank you to the Newman lads for a great fixture.
Year 10 Rounders
Our Year 10 rounders team took part in the Carlisle City tournament on Wednesday after school.
The William Howard team finished in 3rd position, narrowly losing to Trinity and Caldew but finishing with an excellent win over Austin Friars. The girls grew in confidence during each game, demonstrating good communication in the field and improved batting.
Well done to everyone, especially Ellen and Maisey who were nominated players of the game by the other schools.
Don’t forget, rounders practice is on Tuesday after school – Years 7 & 8 with Mrs Henderson, and Years 9, 10 & 11 with Mrs Beaumont – come along and have some run!
