Mrs Henderson’s Hockey Report:
A solid team performance from both of WHS girls 7-a-side hockey teams in their second match of the season.
Playing with newly formed teams, both the Year 7/8 combined team and Year 8/9 team displayed great teamwork, good individual skills, and great resilience.
Both teams further developed their ‘games play’ and in the second half showed better use of width, closed opponents down earlier and had more attacking play.
Final scores were:
- Year 7/8 combined team won 3-2 v Trinity
- Year 8/9 combined team lost 4-0 to Caldew
Special mention goes to Abi Fiddler and Eden Mitchell for being players of the match and to Daisy Ballantyne for scoring all three goals and being an excellent team captain.
Well-done to all involved!
Miss Carruthers’ Netball Report:
Smiles all round for the Super 7s!
It was another brilliant match against Caldew last night. This team are growing in confidence, going from strength to strength. A strong William Howard defence made it difficult for the Caldew team to attack and score. Some super central play and attacking from the rest of the girls secured another win.
What a fabulous performance! WHS 7 – Caldew 2
Players’ player – Poppy James Coach’s player – Tilly Fielden
A huge shout out goes to Lily Chung and Molly Dixon who came to the rescue and stepped in to play for the Year 8 team who were short of players. Team effort and a huge thank you!
Our Year 8 team faced a challenging match against Caldew, and although we did not secure a victory, all students displayed remarkable resilience and sportsmanship. Every member of the team played with determination and a positive attitude, showcasing their commitment to growth and teamwork.
Their smiles and camaraderie were evident throughout the game, reminding us all that the true essence of sports lies not just in winning, but in the effort and teamwork we show along the way.
I am incredibly proud of each of them for their hard work and dedication. I’m confident that they will build on this experience and continue to make significant progress. Well done, girls! Keep up the fantastic spirit!
