Year 9 Cricket
Year 9s had their annual Cricket City Tournament on Tuesday at Edenside.
All students performed exceptionally across their two games, including a remarkable comeback in their final game against NTS. Requiring 72 to win, WHS found themselves 36/8, however an excellent fightback from Lewis, Matthew and Will got us over the line to win by one wicket.
Mr Blake remarked “It has been great to see the progress all students have made at practice, which has definitely paid off.”
Years 7 and 8 Rounders
After four postponed matches due to bad weather, the Year 7 and 8 rounders teams had their first match of the season against Trinity on Tuesday.
This was the Year 7’s first match together and despite a loss, they developed both technically and tactically through-out the game. Whilst batting, WHS also produced some great strikes, but unfortunately for us, most of these were caught by Trinity!
It was also a newly formed team for Year 8. They too were unable to secure a win but showed greater game awareness and fielding skills in the second innings. Their batting also improved throughout the game.
Special mention to Rebecca (Y8) and Minnie (Y7) for being nominated players of the match. A great effort by all involved!
Years 8 and 9 Sports Leaders
Over the last half term, our Sports Leaders have been involved in a range of exciting activities with our local primary schools.
Students in Years 8 and 9 who selected Sports Leadership as part of their Character Curriculum have planned, delivered, and officiated a variety of events, including multi-skills mornings, a strike and field festival, and an athletics competition.
The Sports Leaders have shown increasing confidence in all their leadership skills. We are very proud of their maturity the positive impact they have had on these events.
