Netball
On Thursday, our Year 10 Netball team took part in the Carlisle City Tournament. They knew their first match against Caldew (A) would be tough, as they had played the strong team a couple of times previously. However, with some mistakes from the opposition and good shooting from Hannah and Lillyanna, they were able to keep them in close range, with the scores being equal for most of the game. Caldew did pull away in the second half, but WHS were pleased to score 4 goals against them. Final score Caldew 7, WHS 4.
Our second game against Austin Friars, was also close with the play going from end to end the whole match. Due to some excellent defending from Theo and Lily they were only trailing by 1 goal at half time. However, Austin Friars scored some excellent long-range shots and ultimately were the winners 5-0.
Our final game was against Caldew (B), and from the start some excellent play from our centre court players meant that they took the lead early. A strong defence meant that they were able to keep possession of the ball well. Final score, 8-0 to William Howard.
Mrs Holliday said, “I could not be prouder of this group of students! They turn up to training every week, and have improved so much as individuals, but also as a team. During this tournament their commitment, hard work and resilience really paid off. They are always enthusiastic and respectful and are fantastic ambassadors for William Howard School.”
