We’re always excited to hear about individual students’ interests and successes. Here are just a few of those achievements to be proud of:
Hugh congratulations to Year 10 student Bella Richardson who won in the 2024 North of England Trampolining Reginal Semi-finals, which took place in Billingham on Sunday. She now goes on to compete as part of the North of England Squad. Amazing!
Bella has been a member of the Carlisle Trampoline Club for 10 years and recently she received a grant award from the GLL Sport Foundation, helping her with gym membership and access to lots of resources.
Year 7 sisters Abigail and Phoebe Story competed at the Irish Dancing World Championships in Glasgow on Tuesday 26th March. They were in the U13 Girls Ceili Competition as team dancers representing The Healy-O’Donnell School of Irish Dancing and the North East region.
The team were placed in the top 20 and their teacher, Róisín O’Donnell said: “Phoebe, Abigail and all their teammates did themselves, us, their families and the region very proud indeed and we couldn’t have asked for any more from them on the day.”
Meanwhile, Corin Rees (Year 10) won gold at the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Junior National Championships held in Wolverhampton on March 23 and 24.
Corin took part in the tournament as part of Carlisle’s Radgie Rollers BJJ outfit.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art and combat sport that focuses on grappling and ground fighting. It relies on leverage and technique, enabling smaller individuals to defend themselves against larger opponents through the use of joint locks, chokes, and positional control. Corin was awarded his medals for finishing his matches by submission.
