Year 7 Cross Country
A group of Year 7s took part in the City Cross Country Championships at Austin Friars School on Friday. The course was a fast, flat route and the weather conditions were perfect.
Both Year 7 teams finished high up with some brilliant individual performances. Well done to all runners! A special shout out to Louise Ackerley who finished 1st place in the girl’s race and is representing Cumbria at the National XC championship this weekend.
Year 7 Girls Football
Last week, the Year 7 girls football team played in the City Tournament at Harraby. They started off slow but came away with 3 wins and 2 loses.
Mrs Beaumont commented: “These were their first games as a team, but they began to gel together nicely once they found their confidence. There were some amazing goals scored and the girls showed great responsibility, playing in a variety of positions when required.”
Well done to all!
Year 9 Football
Year 9s put in a determined performance against last year’s county cup winners, Netherall, on Thursday.
Despite missing a number of players, they defended excellently in the first half to keep the score line at 0-0. Although they couldn’t maintain this into the second half they worked extremely hard to support each other throughout the match.
A top effort from all and well done to Oscar Murphy for leading the team so impressively.
Year 7 and 9 Rugby
It was the first game for our newly formed Year 7 rugby team this afternoon, playing Caldew School. Thanks to Brampton Council for allowing us to use the King George V playing field to help develop rugby. The lads had a great time and learnt loads. As it was developmental no scores were kept.
Meanwhile, the Year 9s also played with some sterling performances on show. Bring on RRCA in a couple of weeks!
England Netball Trip
32 students travelled down to Manchester arena to watch the England Vitality Roses take on Jamaica in the netball Autumn internationals, on Saturday 16th November.
On arrival at the arena they took in the atmosphere by watching the teams warm up and collecting some ‘goal’ signs ready for the game. They were even lucky enough to have a photo taken with some of the England future roses!
The game was exciting from the first centre pass, with two very evenly matched teams. With the first quarter finishing 13 all. England pulled away in the second quarter and took a six-goal lead into half time.
At this point, the girls took the opportunity to show their support by getting their faces painted with England flags and vitality roses.
Some tactical changes made by Jamaica, gave them a strong start going into the third quarter, scoring 3 goals back-to-back. Overturning the England centre pass.
We were on tenterhooks going into the final quarter, England had a marginal 3 goal lead. Jamaica came out fighting, making a number of excellent interceptions which resulted in them taking the lead for the first time in the match. The play went back and forth, with both teams capitalising on the other mistakes. With a penalty shot awarded to Jamaica, to be taken after the final whistle the game ended 49-49.
Mrs Holliday said, “It has been a brilliant opportunity to see elite Netball and it has without doubt inspired our students to continue in their netball journey.”
Primary School Lacrosse
Over 45 pupils from our cluster primary schools came along to take part in a Lacrosse festival on Wednesday 13th November. The cold, foggy weather didn’t affect anyone’s energy and enthusiasm, and the pupils were a credit to their schools!
To give them an introduction to the skills they need to play the game, the children participated in four different activity stations. Well done to our Year 9 Sports Leaders who organised and delivered the activities. For some of them, this was the first event they have been involved in. They demonstrated maturity, excellent organisation and an ability to motivate and encourage others.
A huge thank you too to the staff from Shankhill, Irthington and Hayton Schools who came to support the festival.
