Netball
Three of our netball teams were in action against Caldew on Thursday, 30th January, with our Year 10 team and our Year 9 A&B teams playing.
The Year 10 team demonstrated some excellent interceptions in their game against a very strong and experienced opposition. WHS played exceptionally well during the middle part of the game, matching their opponent goal for goal. However, Caldew were too strong and took the win in the final third of the match. Lily Prudham was voted player of the game, for her excellent defensive skills.
Meanwhile, the Year 9 A team, put in a dominant performance, with some excellent centre court play and possession, winning their game 12-4. Mia Ridley was voted player of the match by the opposition for her excellent shooting.
The Year 9 B team were matched against a Caldew Year 10 team. The game was very evenly matched, with both teams making good interceptions in their goal third. However, WHS were able to pull away in the final part of the game to secure a 8-4 win.
Well done to all involved!
Hockey
It was a fantastic result for both of WHS girls’ hockey teams on Thursday. The efforts of both the Year 7/8 combined team and the Year 8/9 combined team were rewarded with wins against Caldew School. Final scores were 5-0 and 9-2 respectively.
The Year 7/8 team showed better supporting play and more confidence in attack, while the Year 8/9 team showed great linked up play on all areas on the pitch.
Special mention goes to Louise Ackerley (Year 7/8 team) and Abi Fiddler (Year 8/9 Team) who were named players of the match for their respective teams. Well done to all involved.
