Our Year 12 students had a fantastic opportunity to visit Edge Hill University in Ormskirk on Thursday 5th June, as part of their preparation for life after Sixth Form. The trip was designed to support students with their Post-18 options and give them a real insight into university life—and it certainly delivered.
The day was packed with informative and engaging activities that helped students explore the possibilities of higher education. It began with a warm welcome and introduction to Edge Hill and the world of university study, setting the tone for an inspiring and informative experience.
One of the standout sessions was the Personal Statement workshop, where students received expert guidance on crafting a strong and compelling application. This hands-on session gave them the tools and confidence to begin planning their next steps and presenting themselves effectively to universities.
Students also had the chance to explore the campus through a full guided tour, led by Edge Hill staff and current students. From lecture theatres to libraries and student accommodation, the group got a genuine feel for campus life and the supportive, vibrant community at the university.
Beyond the academic and personal development aspects, the trip also offered a glimpse into the university’s rich history and values. Students learned that the main building at Edge Hill served as a military hospital during World War II, and that the university’s distinctive green and purple colours reflect its historic connection to the Suffragette movement. Originally opened in Liverpool in 1885, Edge Hill was the first non-denominational teacher training college for women, showing its long-standing commitment to progress and inclusion.
Overall, the visit was a resounding success. Students returned with a clearer perception of university life, practical skills to help them prepare for the application process, and a renewed sense of motivation for their future goals.
