On Monday, ten Year 8 students headed off to Penrith Cricket Club to take part in a softball cricket festival organised by Cumbria Cricket. They were joined by students from Richard Rose Morton Academy, Appleby Grammar School and Mayfield School.
The morning began with a focus on the three key skills needed to play cricket – batting, bowling and fielding – with the students from each school rotating around activities designed to improve these skills. Our students tried hard with great enthusiasm.
After an early lunch, the students put their skills in to practice and played each other in a series of cricket matches. They were nervous to start with but by the end of the afternoon, their confidence had grown and there was some great batting and fielding on display. They all found the bowling hard but even this improved as the day wore on.
The students enjoyed their day and returned to school exhausted! Everyone of them had made progress.
Well done to all the students involved – Rebecca, Emma, Paige, Sacha, Payton, Alyssa, Autumn, Lewis, Bailey and George.
A big thank you to John and Hannah from Cumbria Cricket for organising the event.
