Year 12 students are already considering their options following Sixth Form, so recently they visited the UK Universities and Apprenticeships Fair held at Lancaster University to find out from different providers what possibilities are available.
Progress Coach, Mrs Meakin said, “It was a good time to visit as Year 12 will be beginning to complete their UCAS applications, as well as other options. Students were able to find out more from the universities about their courses and facilities. In addition, there were apprenticeship providers who could outline their offers. For those interested in healthcare, there was a simulation ward where the students could interact with patients to listen to their heart beats, for example. Lancaster University offered tours of their campus, including the accommodation to give students an idea of what a campus university can offer.”
In addition to this, Mrs Meakin took three students to Durham University for a Primary Education Taster Day. They were given information regarding the course and how to formulate their personal statement. A student and tutor demonstrated how to use props in lessons by using a suitcase that an evacuee might have and telling a story behind some items. There was also a tour around Durham which gave the opportunity to look at the cathedral and the two types of colleges (Bailey and Hill), giving the students an idea of the facilities Durham could offer.
