A group of students from Years 8, 9 and 10 enjoyed an amazing trip to Malaga in Spain last week, emersed in a variety of cultural experiences, allowing them to use what they have been learning in lesson in a real-life context.
The week was kicked off with a Flamenco dance class in which they learnt a sequence and delivered a spectacular performance. This was followed by a trip into Benalmadena where they marvelled at the views of the region and enjoyed the informative Birds of Prey show which introduced a variety of species local to South America. Afterwards, the students had a hands-on cooking lesson, making Spain’s national dish and creating the most delicious Chicken paella.
Wednesday brought with it a historical adventure into the Castles of Gibralfaro and Alcazaba where our enthusiastic history teacher Mr Campbell became a tour guide for the day, delivering interesting historical and contextual facts about the fortress. After the adventure back in time, they went on to Malaga where students had time to go shopping, buy presents and of course sample the Spanish cuisine. Following some very much needed retail therapy, the students got to venture into the subterranean world of Nerja caves, where they were in awe at some of the largest stalactites in the world.
Thursday was a jam-packed day at Aqualand Water Park with exhilarating rides, multiple pools, and copious amounts of SPF! Finally, Friday rounded up the trip with a fascinating show at Selwo Marina Park where the group got close up and personal with reptiles, fish, birds and many other animals. The highlight of the day was the educational dolphin show where the students learnt about the mammals and the threat posed to them by climate change.
The accompanying staff where incredibly proud of the students during the trip – they interacted with the culture and the people and made the most of every educational opportunity that presented itself to the students.
