In their second game of the season, the Year 9 netballers took with them what they’d learned from the last game against Trinity and put it into practice. It was one of those games when the flow, set plays and shooting all just comes together as it should. The team dominated from the first quarter and went on to win the game 12-5.
Well done to the whole team! The player’s player of the match was Paloma O’Connor.
Janie McAulay, Abbie Whiteford, Olivia Richardson, Jessica Marshalsea, Paloma O’Connor, Ava Stainton, Tilly Broome, Thea Hansel and Jessica Whiteford.
We have a newly formed Year 10 team who have only been training for the last couple of weeks. Some of them have only just started to play the sport in preparation of their GCSE PE practical exam in Year 11. The conditions weren’t the best- it was cold and windy – but all players showed true resilience throughout the 40-minute match. WHS 3 – Caldew 11.
Miss Carruthers said, “It was a pleasure to take them on their first fixture. Mrs Holliday and I know that this team will go from strength to strength over the next few months.”
Players’ player of the match was Lilly-Anna Rickerby.
Well done to all of the team: Theo Lamont, Lilly Prudham, Hannah Winkley, Katie Smith, Sophie Ratcliffe, Lilly-Anna Rickerby and Sasha Fowkes.
The Year 11 match against Caldew is always close, and this one was no different. The team got off to a great start and were ahead, it was tight with only one goal in it. The first quarter finished and WHS were leading 5-4. The second quarter proved to be a struggle, we lost our momentum and despite getting the ball into the attacking circle on several occasions, it just wouldn’t go in the net.
Caldew were on top at the end of the second quarter they had pulled away leading 9 goals to 5. The girls fought back hard, and their confidence was restored with a few good goals but the goal difference proved too much. The game finished Caldew 19 – WHS 14. We look forward to the tournament next week.
Players player of the game was Izzy Milligan.
Well done to Beth Johnston, Hope O’Connor, Maddie Reed, Zaara Nasif, Poppy Harrison, Heilani Acton, Izzy Matthews, Tallulah Brough, Amy Graham and Izzy Milligan.
Congratulations to Year 11 student, Hope O’Connor who recently took part in County Netball Trials with a view to be being selected for the U17 County Team.
The selection process was rigorous and the standard of performance was of the highest calibre but we are pleased to announce that Hope has been selected.
Miss Carruthers commented, “Hope has continuously demonstrated the highest level of commitment to netball, both in and out of school. Her passion, drive and motivation to always want to improve has never wavered. We are super proud of her and look forward to hearing about her progress.”
