On Wednesday 21st October, students attended the annual Capon Tree memorial service to mark the 281st anniversary of the brutal execution of six Jacobite soldiers at the Capon Tree in Brampton in 1746 after the events of the Jacobite rising of 1745.
It is an important opportunity to remember the Jacobites who lost their lives fighting for their beliefs and the cause of the restoration of the Stuart monarchy in England, Scotland, and Ireland, and to reflect on the lasting significance of this period in our local history.
Mr Campbell and Mrs Bouch were incredibly impressed by and proud of our students, whose conduct, dignity and respect throughout the service were exemplary.
A particular well done to Morven and Harvey, whose singing added something really special to the occasion, performing a rendition of ‘Bonnie Banks o’ Loch Lomond’. A particular poignant moment came when those in attendance joined in the chorus.
The students, who were joined by representatives of both the 1715 and 1745 Jacobite Associations, RAF Spadeadam, the clergy, and Brampton Parish Council, were fantastic ambassadors for our school, and we couldn’t be prouder of them all.
