Netball
Over forty of our KS3 students took to the court to face tough opposition at Caldew in a fantastic afternoon of netball this week
Our Year 7, Year 8A & B and Year 9 teams showed incredible sportsmanship, enthusiasm and resilience throughout every match. Caldew proved to be tough opposition, and unfortunately 3 of the results didn’t go our way. However, our year 8A team played a highly competitive game which finished in a draw.
We are so proud of all our players and cannot wait to see them develop in skill level and confidence this year. A huge well done to everyone involved – your effort and attitude were outstanding!
We are always keen for new players to come and join these teams, so please remember that training continues on Wednesday’s after school!
Hockey
A solid team performance from our girls 7-a-side hockey teams in their first matches of the season.
Playing with newly formed teams, both the Year 7/8 combined team and Year 9/10 team displayed good teamwork, some great individual skills, and showed resilience in their matches against Nelson Thomlinson School.
The Year 7/8 team produced a strong first half performance, with a score of 2-2 at half time. In the second half they further developed their ‘games play’ and worked using the width more but unfortunately lost 6-3.
The Year 9/10 team worked hard in defence against a strong opposition. At times they also created some good attacking play building from the back but could not convert any of their efforts into goals.
For both teams this is the starting point of the season, and no doubt they will grow in performance through-out the year.
Special mention goes to Louise A and Daisy B for being players of the match for their respective teams, and to Hattie W for her coaching skills. Well-done to all involved!

Girls Rugby
What an awesome day out for our girls’ rugby squad at their first ever county-wide rugby festival – over 100 (Year 7-10) players from across the county came together for a brilliant showcase of talent and teamwork.
For many of our players, it was their first experience of contact rugby, and they showed incredible resilience and growth throughout the day. The afternoon matches saw a huge improvement in confidence, skill, and team spirit – we couldn’t be prouder!
New players are always welcome! Join us Wednesdays after school. No experience needed – just enthusiasm and a willingness to give it a go!
Cross Country
Well Done to all students who represented William Howard School in the County Cross Country Championships – Team event.
Against tough opposition and on a challenging course all students performed excellently. The inter girls team came 2nd, beaten only by Sedbergh while there were outstanding individual performances from Elliot (2nd in the inter boys) and Frankie (6th in the inter girls).
Primary School Handball and Tchoukball Festival
On Wednesday, over 50 of our local primary school pupils took part in a Handball and Tchoukball festival. Year 3 and 4 pupils from Bewcastle, Fir Ends, Brampton, Hayton, Warwick Bridge, Great Corby, Irthington, Crosby, Castle Carrock and Lanercost participated in passing, shooting and dribbling drills in both activities. They then applied their skills in small-sided games. The skill sessions and games were planned and led by our Year 9 and Sixth Form Sports Leaders, who did a fantastic job! It was great to see so many pupils try these activities for the first time. Well done to all!
