Our Alumnus of the Month for March is Ben Fisher who left William Howard School in 2011.
Ben’s career journey offers an example of how taking action and embracing opportunities can lead to success. When Ben was at WHS, he enjoyed lessons in Maths, Technology and PE. He reflects fondly on the friendships he formed, many of which he considers lifelong connections. For Ben, school provided the perfect environment to explore his interests, helping him make informed choices. This process not only shaped his academic and career path but also supported his personal and social development, giving him the space to grow and discover his interests.
Following school Ben pursued an apprenticeship, gaining hands-on experience while working towards his qualifications. His current role as the Managing Director of AB Energy Centre, highlights his commitment to innovation, problem-solving, and renewable energy, while his ownership of local businesses like Map Sculpture showcases his entrepreneurial spirit.
In addition to his business ventures, Ben enjoys running a small farm and holiday lets, demonstrating his diverse interests and work-life balance. He values the challenge and evolution of his work, especially with the integration of new technologies. Above all, Ben’s pride in supporting his local community by creating local jobs and introducing new ideas to Cumbria reflects his deep connection to the region.
Ben’s message to current students is one of action and perseverance: don’t wait for the perfect opportunity, just dive in and learn along the way. He encourages students to take risks, be adaptable, and work hard to achieve their aspirations. Hard work, he believes, does pay off, and success comes to those who are proactive and determined.
