Following an overnight ferry crossing, students and staff arrived at Toverland Theme Park to begin what would be an exciting and rewarding sports tour. Despite mixed weather conditions, everyone made the most of the opportunity and thoroughly enjoyed a fantastic day exploring the rides and attractions.
Tuesday marked the start of the sporting schedule. Both the netball and football teams began the morning with high quality training sessions delivered by the Elite Netball Academy and the Norwich City Foundation. Students embraced the chance to learn from professional coaches and demonstrated excellent commitment throughout the sessions. In the afternoon, the teams took part in their first tournament fixtures against schools from across the region, and all groups produced a very positive set of performances.
In netball, the Year 10 A and B teams both ended the day without a single loss, showing impressive consistency and determination. The Year 9 team also worked incredibly hard in their matches and secured a strong position heading into the second day of competition. Over in football, the Year 10 team enjoyed an excellent afternoon in which they won all of their games, while the Year 9 team also produced great performances and earned a series of strong results.
Day 2 began with another round of professional coaching sessions, after which the teams moved into the decisive matches of the competition. Their final league positions from Day 1 determined the divisions for the day’s fixtures. In netball, both Year 10 teams were placed in the Premiership Division, where they faced a high standard of opposition. Throughout the afternoon, they played brilliantly and showed great resilience in each of their games. Their final match saw the Year 10 A and B teams play each other, and after a closely fought contest, the A team narrowly secured victory. The Year 9 team competed in the Championship Division, which involved facing teams from both Year 9 and 10, and they performed incredibly well to finish the tournament in third place. At the end of the two days of competition, the Year 10 A team finished top of the Premiership League, the Year 10 B team finished fourth in the same division, and the Year 9 team completed the tournament with a well deserved third place finish in the Championship League.
The football teams also had an excellent second day. The Year 10 team secured their place in the Premiership League, where they competed against five strong teams. Although they lost their first game, they responded superbly, winning their next three matches and drawing another. Their efforts resulted in a second place finish, as they narrowly missed out on the title by just a single goal. The Year 9 football team played in the Championship League and started the afternoon strongly with a victory. They experienced a mixed set of results as the day progressed but continued to perform with determination and enthusiasm, eventually finishing the competition in third place.
Thursday morning began with a slightly later breakfast before the group started their journey home. After another overnight ferry crossing, students and staff arrived safely back at school on Friday morning, tired but proud of their achievements and the memorable experience they had shared.
The sports tour proved to be a tremendous success. Students represented the school with outstanding effort, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout, both on and off the pitch. Staff were extremely proud of all participants, and the trip provided valuable opportunities for sporting development as well as unforgettable moments for everyone involved.
