The Lord’s Taverners youth cricket and disability sports charity has just released a very moving video featuring two of our wonderful table cricket team members, Sarah and Summer. The video highlights the positive benefits that the inclusive sport has in breaking down barriers and empowering disadvantaged and disabled young people to fulfil their potential and build life skills.
Our inclusive Table Cricket and Boccia teams have enjoyed fantastic success over the years, and this is down to the drive and dedication of their coach, Tracey Croucher (Learning Support Teaching Assistant).
Mrs Croucher runs three training sessions for inclusive sports every week and has coached various teams over the last 17 years, taking them to tournaments and events all around the country.
We are bursting with pride that she has been nominated for a 2024 Pride of Cumbria Award, in the Educational Hero category. She has made a significant difference to the confidence and lives of many of our students, giving them a chance to participate, enjoy and succeed not just in sport, but the wider world too.
Headteacher, Kath Pigdon, deeply values Tracey’s contribution and said: “Through Tracey’s passion for sport, she has instilled in our students a profound sense of aspiration and possibility. Her legacy is one of pushing boundaries, nurturing dreams, and inspiring students to be the best they can be. We are forever grateful for the support and opportunities she provides for our students. We wish her the best of luck for the award, but she is already our Pride of William Howard winner.”
Tracey added, “I am very pleased to have been nominated for this award and to be recognised for the work I do. I am passionate about inclusive sport because it really can change the lives of students with special educational needs, allowing them to develop so many life skills and to experience success. The smiles on their faces when they are taking part say it all.”
