This week’s Headteacher’s Award goes to James McLean. James has made an outstanding start to Year 12 and is a thoroughly deserving recipient of the Headteacher’s Award. Through his Business Studies course, James has embraced every opportunity available to him. He has taken part in the Dream Placement programme organised through the Centre for Leadership Performance and will soon be representing the school in the Young Enterprise competition later this month.
James made a strong impression at Futureproof Cumbria, where he worked as part of a team to create a professional promotional video aimed at attracting new sponsors. His creativity, teamwork and exceptional work ethic did not go unnoticed. As a result, James has been invited back to film the 3rd Zero Carbon Cumbria Summit, organised by Futureproof Cumbria and the Zero Carbon Cumbria Partnership. The event, taking place on 12 March 2026 at the North Lakes Hotel in Penrith, focuses on accelerating a fair, net-zero pathway for the region, and James’ work will feature across their social media platforms.
Within school, James has been a key member of the media team. He played an important role in filming the staff pantomime before Christmas and helped produce the promotional video for the highly anticipated Sixth Form Derby.
Alongside his academic and media commitments, James competes as a member of the Cumbria County Boys’ Junior Golf Team. He balances all these achievements with his studies, demonstrating dedication, maturity, and enthusiasm in everything he does. James is a hardworking and ambitious young man who represents the very best of our Sixth Form community.
